When the Tree Is Too Close to the House

There is usually a reason a tree has been on your list for two years. It is too big, too close to something expensive, or nobody has given you a straight answer about it. We handle the removals that take real planning, including the ones that need a crane or have to come out through a narrow gate. What stands around the tree matters as much to us as the tree itself.

When the Tree Is Too Close to the House

Land You Own but Cannot Use

You bought the whole property. Right now you are probably using about two thirds of it. Clearing opens up the part that has been lost to overgrowth, whether that is a back section of the yard or several acres that have never been touched. The finish level is your call, from a clean line at the tree edge to a fully open lot ready for what comes next.

Tree Trimming and Pruning

Pruning is the service people put off longest, because a tree growing over the roof rarely feels urgent until something happens. It is also the cheapest tree work you will ever pay for compared to a removal. Handled correctly, it buys years of clearance, reduces the weight sitting over your house, and keeps the tree in a condition it can maintain.

The most common reasons people call us to prune:

Getting Limbs Off the House

Getting Limbs Off the House

Branches on the roofline, limbs over the driveway, and growth crowding the gutters or blocking a walkway. We take back the clearance you need without gutting the tree to get it.

Deadwood and Crowded Canopies

Deadwood and Crowded Canopies

Dead limbs eventually fall, usually at the worst time. We remove them along with crossing branches and crowded interior growth, which lets light and air through the canopy and takes weight off the outer limbs.

Structure and Shape

Structure and Shape

Young trees benefit most from structural pruning, since correcting growth early prevents the weak unions and heavy limbs that cause failures decades later.

Stump Grinding

There is no good reason to leave a stump in a lawn. It attracts insects, it sends up shoots you keep cutting back, and it makes the whole area look unfinished no matter how well the rest of the yard is kept. Grinding removes the obstruction and gives you back a section of property you have probably stopped thinking of as usable.

The most common reasons people call us to grind a stump:

Getting the Yard Back

Getting the Yard Back

The stump comes out below grade so you can run a mower straight over it and grow grass across the spot. No swerving, no catching a blade, no dead patch in the middle of the lawn.

Replanting or Building on the Spot

Replanting or Building on the Spot

If you want a new tree, a shed pad, a patio, or a fence line in that spot, tell us before we start. Those need more depth and a wider grind than a stump you simply want to mow over.

Stumps Somebody Else Left

Stumps Somebody Else Left

You do not have to have hired us for the removal. Old stumps, weathered stumps, and ones that have been sitting for years all grind out the same way.

Storm Cleanup and Emergency Service

After a bad storm every tree company in Bucks and Montgomery County is working through the same backlog, and the ones promising immediate dispatch are not always the ones who show up. We answer 24/7 and we tell you the truth about timing. Some situations need a crew that night. Others are safer at daylight, because cutting a tree under tension in the dark adds risk without improving the result.

What we handle after a storm:

Trees on Structures

Trees on Structures

When a tree is resting on a structure it is usually under tension, which changes how it has to be cut. Getting it wrong does more damage than the fall did.

Blocked Access and Hanging Limbs

Blocked Access and Hanging Limbs

If something is blocking access or hanging where people walk, that is the priority. Everything else on the property can wait an hour.

Cleanup and Debris Removal

Cleanup and Debris Removal

Once the immediate problem is handled, there is usually a yard full of limbs and debris. We chip and haul it so you are not looking at the storm for the next three weeks.

Why Homeowners Trust Us With the Trees Closest to Their Homes

Most tree service complaints are not about the tree. They are about the ruts in the lawn, the cracked patio stone, and the crew that disappeared halfway through. We built our reputation by making sure none of that happens on your property.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Services

How often should trees be trimmed?

It depends more on the tree and its position than on a schedule. Mature shade trees in good condition typically need attention every three to five years. Fast growing species, anything near a structure, and young trees being shaped for good structure need it more often. A tree nobody has touched in fifteen years usually needs one significant visit followed by much lighter work after that. If a branch has started touching the house or the canopy has closed up enough that no light reaches the ground underneath, it is time regardless of when it was last done.

When is the best time of year to prune?

Late fall through early spring is ideal for most trees. The structure is visible without leaves, which makes better cuts possible, and disease and insect pressure is at its lowest. There is one regional caution worth knowing. Oaks should not be pruned in spring or early summer, because fresh cuts attract the beetles that spread oak wilt. Elms carry a similar concern with Dutch elm disease. If you have either on your property, that work belongs in the colder months. Storm damage and hazardous limbs are the exception to all of this and get handled whenever they appear.

Do you top trees?

Yes, we top trees when that is what a property owner wants. It brings height down quickly and it is sometimes the practical answer, particularly on a tree that is already in decline or one where appearance is not the priority. It is worth knowing that a topped tree grows back faster and weaker than one that is properly reduced, so plan on maintenance afterward. If you would rather not deal with that, tell us the height or clearance you are after and we will explain what crown reduction would look like instead.

How deep do you grind a stump, and what is left behind?

Standard grinding takes the stump several inches below grade, generally six to twelve inches depending on what you plan to do with the spot. Mowing over it and growing grass needs less depth than replanting a tree or installing anything in that location. Grinding does not remove the entire root system, so expect some surface roots to remain radiating out from where the stump was, particularly with shallow rooted species like maple. Those are rarely a problem for lawn but they matter if a patio, shed pad, or fence line is going in.

Can you grind a stump if another company removed the tree?

Yes, and a good portion of our grinding work is exactly that. Someone took the tree down, left the base, and the homeowner has been working around it since. Age does not make a stump harder to grind. One that has been sitting for ten years comes out the same way as one from last month, sometimes more easily since the wood has softened. Tell us roughly how wide it is across the top and where it sits on the property, and we can tell you what it involves.

Do you handle small jobs, or only large ones?

Both. A single stump, one limb over a driveway, or a small tree in a back corner are all normal calls for us. There is no minimum job size and no reason to bundle several things together to make it worth our time. That said, if you have three or four items on your property, mention all of them when you reach out. Handling them in one visit is usually cheaper than three separate trips.

Let Us Take a Look at It

Plenty of people call unsure whether the tree needs pruning or removal, or whether the back section needs clearing or just cleanup. That is a normal starting point. Tell us what you are looking at and we will come assess it in person.
